A cocktail that shares its name with the French Quarters in New Orleans - this classic was created by head bartender Walter Bergeron of Hotel Monteleone all the way back in 1938.

When there is a Sunday that deserves a good cocktail - I am up for it.

So off we went to the wonderful Malabar in the Westcord Hotel Jakarta where we met up with Bar manager Tarik. His team knew what I needed and welcomed me with this whiskey-based cocktail.

The Classic Vieux Carré.

This cocktail could be considered the embodiment of New Orleans history. Rich, strong, bitter and sweet all in one.

• Hennessy vs.

• Antica Formula

• DOM Bénédictine

• Peychaud

• Angostura bitters
  

What's it take like?

When you think of the (both tragic and beautiful) history of New Orleans, this cocktail could be considered the embodiment of this history. It is rich, strong, bitter and sweet all in one.

Should I drink it?

To me, this would be the perfect drink at the end of a sunny weekend and because it's not overly sweet, it's definitely a classic crowd pleaser.

Een zonnige zondag verdient een goede cocktail, en ik was er klaar voor.

Dus gingen we naar de prachtige Malabar in het Westcord Hotel Jakarta waar we een ontmoeting hadden met barmanager Tarik. Zijn team wist wat ik nodig had en verwelkomde me met deze cocktail op basis van whiskey.

Dit is voor mij het perfecte drankje aan het einde van een zonnig weekend. En omdat het niet overdreven zoet is, is het zeker een klassieker die iedereen kan bekoren.
