Jameson Whiskey Bow Street Tour

Jameson Whiskey Distrillery

When visiting Dublin, a trip to some of the city's most classic and renowned whiskey distilleries is a must. Steeped in history and tradition, this tour provided an in-depth look into Jameson, showcasing why this brand should not be underestimated.

Our guide, Robbie, was a lively bundle of joy who made us feel immersed in the narrative as he led us through the various rooms of the building. I started off with a straight whiskey and we dove deep into the history and story behind the drink and the brand.

Unique details

One unique aspect of this tour was the interactive sniffing session where we used small sample sticks to experience the distinct aromas of different new makes of whiskey, distinguishing between Pot still and column still varieties. And did you know every bottle of Jameson features a little man on the bottom? This figure, known as their Cask Man, pays tribute to the hardworking individuals who craft this exceptional whiskey and to all of us who enjoy it as fans and consumers!

Whiskey Tasting

The highlight was the tasting in the final room, where Robbie guided us through three delicious whiskeys, helping us identify their unique flavors. We started with the classic, a floral and soft whiskey that reminded us of Jameson's origins. Next, the Crested Distillers edition, aged in Sherry casks, offered spicy notes of cloves and hints of aniseed and cocoa beans. We concluded with one of my favorites, the Black Barrel, with its sweet, supple taste featuring prominent wood and vanilla notes—a perfect choice for an Old-Fashioned.

Cask draw in the maturation house

Cask Draw

For an extra special experience, we booked a cask draw and ventured into the maturation house, greeted by the delightful aroma of aging whiskey barrels—woody, boozy, and utterly delightful. Our guide showcased a new barrel, pouring us a whiskey at 54% abv, initially revealing a distinctive glue note that evolved into aromas of green apples, grass, and red grapes.

Pear and Blackberry Sour

Colorful cocktails

While waiting for our cask draw, we enjoyed cocktails bathed in sunlight streaming through the overhead windows. Our bartender, Caio, a Brazilian superstar, crafted an incredible pear and blackcurrant whiskey sour—a vibrant pink drink that not only looked stunning but tasted exquisite with its fruity, sour, and smooth flavors.

Considering a visit to this distillery? I wholeheartedly recommend it—ask for Robbie to elevate your experience tenfold.
